I took some of the vintage portable hand mixers down from the shelves to share with a closer look. Sunbeam, General Electric, Westinghouse, Hamilton-Beach, Dormeyer and others are represented in this survey of hand held portable mixers.

Electric hand mixers have been around since the 1920’s, but really came into use by the average households in large numbers in the 1950’s. A handy tool in any kitchen, these appliances mix cake batter, cookie dough, egg whites, whipping cream, potatoes, and any number of other things.
